What is BIS Hallmark in Gold ?
BIS Hallmark means how pure the gold is. This is a quality certificate issued by the BIS guaranteeing the purity of gold in a certain piece of jewelry. Hallmarking is allowed on 14-, 18- and 22-carat gold jewelry. Gold in additional carats, 20, 23 and 24, will also be allowed for hallmarking in due course. Any piece of BIS hallmarked gold jewellery will bear the BIS logo, indicating that its purity has been validated in one of BIS’s approved labs. The BIS is India’s only government-approved institution for hallmarking gold commodities of any kind to ensure their purity.
